Robert A. Smith has never been one to shy away from taking on the some of Scouting’s most challenging roles.
His service at the unit level includes many years as a Troop Committee Member, along with roles as an Assistant Scoutmaster and Explorer Post Advisor in Detroit and Pittsburgh before Bob relocated to the Gettysburg area.
Since moving to the Battlefield District, Bob has been tremendously active as a Unit Commissioner, District Committee Member, Merit Badge Counselor, District Commissioner and his current role as District Chair and a member of the Council’s Executive Board. Bob has also regularly assisted with a variety of training course and district special events, including camporees. Bob has also served as a volunteer commissioner during summer camp at Hidden Valley Scout Reservation and as a staff member at the 2013 and 2017 National Jamborees and the 2019 World Jamboree.
Outside of Scouting, Bob is an officer and board member and Communications Chair of the Mediation Services of Adams County. Bob is active member Gettysburg Presbyterian Church where he is the Development Chair of the Mission Committee for the church. Bob was a mission leader for three trips to New Orleans to repair damages to homes following Hurricane Katrina. Bob is also the Publicity Chair for the Refugee Resettlement Partnership of Gettysburg, an organization that provides resettlement support through partnership and membership organizations.
