As a Life Scout in Troop 511 growing up in the Manayunk neighborhood of Philadelphia, David Wyrwas spent four summers serving on the summer camp staff at Treasure Island Scout Camp, while also serving for 10 years as a volunteer camp master at Treasure Island.
A Brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow, Dave’s love for Scouting’s outdoor programs continues today in his current role as the Council’s Vice President for Camping. Dave joined the Executive Board of the legacy York-Adams Area Council in 2009 and he has continuously served as a member of the Council’s Camping Committee ever since. He has also served on the event staff for a total of five Wizard Safari and Rendezvous council-wide camping events.
Dave’s experience as an executive with the Glatfelter Insurance Group has been put to excellent use in his role in assisting with the Council’s insurance programs and risk management efforts.
At the unit level, Dave spent two years as an Assistant Scoutmaster with his boyhood Troop 511 in Philadelphia. When his son became a Cub Scout, Dave spent a total of six years serving as the pack’s Cubmaster and Committee Chair (three years in each role).
A resident of Mount Joy, Dave has been involved in leadership roles in several professional organizations, including the Pennsylvania Fire and Emergency Institute (board member and president), National Fallen Firefighter Association (board member), Congressional Fire Service Institute (advisory board) and a member of the advisory board for the International Association of Fire Chiefs (Volunteer and Combination Officers).
