Scouting has always been a significant aspect of family life for Roger Heyser.
The father of two Eagle Scout sons, Benjamin and Wesley, Roger’s Scouting career has included service at the unit, district and council levels. Roger served as a Webelos Den Leader for Pack 79 in Gettysburg before becoming moving on to Troop 79 where he served as an Assistant Scoutmaster, Scoutmaster and Troop Committee Member.
At the district level, Roger has also held many different roles, including Merit Badge Counselor, Unit Commissioner, District Activities Committee Member and District Commissioner. Roger received the District Award of Merit in 2019.
A Vigil Honor member of the Order of the Arrow, Roger’s service to Scouting expanded over the years to include several different leadership roles at the Council level, including roles as a National Jamboree Scoutmaster, Associate Order of the Arrow Lodge Adviser, Member of the Council Properties Committee, along with his work as a Member of the Council Shooting Sports Committee, where he presently serves as the committee’s Chair.
Roger’s service to the community isn’t limited just to Scouting. He has been a member of the Gettysburg Fire Department for more than 30 years, serving in a variety of leadership roles as the department’s Secretary, Treasurer, Vice President and President. He also served as President of the Pennsylvania State Firemen’s Association in 1992.
