James E. West Fellows
James E. West was the first Chief Scout Executive of the Boy Scouts of America, serving in that position for more than three decades. The James E. West Fellowship Award is a national recognition for contributions of $1,000 or more to the New Birth of Freedom Council, Boy Scouts of America’s Endowment Fund in excess of a donor’s Friends of Scouting support. The interest earned from these gifts will permanently be used to support local Scouting programs, operations, capital projects and other needs of the council.
Individuals or organizations or may contribute an award in honor of someone, such as an Eagle Scout, a Silver Beaver recipient, Scouting volunteer, business associate or in memory of a departed loved one.
Recipients receive a special certificate, uniform square knot and pin. Presentation of this award is coordinated with the donor through the Development Department of the New Birth of Freedom Council, BSA.

Recognition Levels
- Bronze Level – Gifts of $1,000 or more
- Silver Level – Gifts of $5,000 or more
- Gold Level – Gifts of $10,000 or more
- Diamond Level – Gifts of $15,000 or more
This recognition is for an outright gift of $25,000 or more payable over 5 years, or a deferred gift of $100,000 or more to the
New Birth of Freedom Council, Boy Scouts of America’s Operating, Capital or Endowment Funds. Members making outright gifts of $100,000, $500,000 and $1,000,000 or more are designated as “Members of Distinction” and receive special recognition from the BSA Foundation.
