From the National Park Service regarding the McMillan Woods Youth Campground:
“The McMillan Woods Youth Campground is currently closed for the foreseeable future. Many camping options exist within the surrounding community. We encourage those looking for camping opportunities to visit Destination Gettysburg at https://destinationgettysburg.com for more information.”
Please note that our Council has not evaluated or endorsed any commercial campgrounds in the Gettysburg area.
Other options for out-of-town troops traveling to Gettysburg include staying in cabins at our council’s Camp Tuckahoe (located about 26.4 miles north of Gettysburg, but an easy 35-minute drive on Rt. 15). In addition, we can frequently accommodate groups at our council’s Camp Conewago, located in New Oxford, PA (about 16.7 miles or 30 minutes from Gettysburg).
The National Park Service’s website for Gettysburg National Military Park is an excellent resource, and we strongly recommend that units visit it when planning their trip to Gettysburg.
A terrific map of the battlefield and the town of Gettysburg is available on the National Park Service’s web site. It will help you get an idea of how things are laid out in and around the battlefield.
